About us and what we do.

Located in the Austin Springs where the Watauga River meets Boone Lake, we've been gardening for many years. Most of what we've grown has been heirloom vegetables or some very odd things. It is said that "Variety is the spice of life!" so we intend for our garden to be the same.

Several years ago, we purchased a high end greenhouse kit from Planta.com which gave us the ability to start seedlings earlier and to plant cool weather crops in the ground inside. As the Planta greenhouse proved to be such a valuable investment, we relocated it and built a larger greenhouse with a wood frame. This last Summer became "Tomato Heaven" as we planted around 100 tomato plants inside and ended up with a jungle.

Our love of heirloom plants led us to start Austin Springs Acre so that we could grow and provide heirloom vegetable and other plants to our friends, family and customers. Although we may grow an occasional run of hybrids It is usually all heirlooms all the time! And exotic plants? The more unusual, the more likely that you will find them growing in one of our greenhouses.

Having built a greenhouse from a kit and then later from scratch, we have insights into what works well and things to avoid. To that end, we want to help other people enjoy greenhouses of their own. We maintain a stock of 8' x 4' 6mm twinwall dual UV coated polycarbonate as well as other materials needed for greenhouse construction. Combine the materials with ready made greenhouse plans that we have available and you are ready to build your own greenhouse. We don't just sell materials and plans, we are with you through the entire process to get you growing year round. (Note - Year round operation requires a heat source in extreme cold weather and grow lights aid in plant maturity during shorter days).
